Birgit Nilsson

Märta Birgit Svensson Niklasson (1918–2005) was one of the 20th century's greatest Wagner and Strauss sopranos. Famous for her extraordinary vocal power, she was celebrated for her portrayals of Brünnhilde, Isolde, Turandot and Elektra at the Metropolitan, La Scala, Bayreuth and Wiener Staatsoper.
