Johan Jonatan Björling (1911–1960) is widely regarded as one of the greatest tenors of the 20th century. He debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1938 and became celebrated for his lyrical, warm voice and interpretations of Verdi, Puccini and Gounod. He recorded over 600 works during his career.
